Others worry that it could draw attention to Trump’s declining poll numbers at a time when his job performance is being questioned by 58% of respondents in a recent poll.

Trump emphasized the importance of the event, citing his “no tax on tips” policy and deregulation of fossil fuels as examples of Republican successes. He also mentioned that the convention would be an opportunity to celebrate America’s 250th birthday and build for the next 250 years of American greatness.
