Israel launches surprise attack on Beirut neighbourhood, leaving residents shaken

Beirut Neighborhoods Hit by Israeli Attack

A residential building in Beirut’s Aicha Bakkar neighborhood was struck by an Israeli ordnance on Wednesday morning, causing significant damage to the surrounding area. The attack occurred at approximately 5:20am, and residents reported hearing multiple explosions.

Mohammad al-Ahmad, a resident of the affected building, stated that he woke up in a panic after hearing the first explosion and rushed to check on his family. He described the scene as “glass all over the floor” with extensive damage to his apartment. A third unexploded ordnance was found nearby.

The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported four people injured in the attack. Israeli media attributed the target of the strike to the Jama’a Islamiye, although the group denied involvement. The building directly adjacent to the targeted structure sustained significant damage.

This incident marks a recent escalation in Israel’s military campaign against Lebanon, which began on March 2 after Hezbollah launched an attack on Israel for the first time in over a year. A ceasefire had been in effect since November 27, 2024, despite reported Israeli violations exceeding 15,000 since then.

The attack has left residents shaken, particularly those who were under the impression that their areas were deemed safe. The incident is part of a larger pattern of Israeli strikes against Lebanon, which have targeted various regions and communities.
