Ireland Secures Landmark Series Win Over India in Belfast
In a tense match, Ireland defeated India by one run in the second T20, securing a landmark series win over the T20 world champions. The match took place at Stormont in Belfast.
India’s batting lineup struggled to recover from an early loss of wickets. Jai Moondra, who made his international debut on Friday, dismissed Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma in the same over, before removing India captain Shreyas Iyer. Despite a late surge from Tilak Varma and Harshit Rana, India finished with 153-9.
Ireland’s batting lineup recovered from a slow start to post 154-8. Harry Tector marked his 100th T20 international appearance with a fine 50. The match was Ireland’s first international men’s win over India in any format.
India-born Jai Moondra made his second consecutive international appearance, following his debut on Friday. Teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was again left out of the squad for this match, despite being named as a replacement for the white-ball tours of Ireland and England.
Sooryavanshi had previously emerged as the leading run-scorer in the Indian Premier League season, amassing 776 runs. He will have his next chance to make an international debut on Wednesday’s first T20 against England at Chester-le-Street.
