Australian Open Day Three Focuses on Naomi Osakas On-Court Performance

Naomi Osaka Makes Breathtaking Entrance at Australian Open

Naomi Osaka made a striking appearance on the court for her opening match of the Australian Open 2026, wearing a wide-brim hat, veil, and holding a white umbrella. The fashion statement drew attention from fans at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne.

Osaka went on to defeat Antonia Ruzic in their first-round match, winning with a scoreline of 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. The Japanese player, seeded 16th, has won two of her four Grand Slam titles at the Australian Open.

Earlier in the day, Jannik Sinner, the defending champion, entered the second round with ease against Hugo Gaston. Sinner dominated the match, winning 6-2 and 6-1 in just over an hour. Gaston retired after the first set, showing signs of distress.

Sinner will face James Duckworth next for a place in the third round. Meanwhile, Madison Keys, the women’s defending champion, won her title defense with a shaky victory over Oleksandra Oliynykova 7-6 (8-6), 6-1.

The men’s draw also saw an emotional farewell to the tournament from Gael Monfils, who lost to Dane Sweeny in a four-set match. The French player received an on-court presentation and standing ovation after his final performance at the venue.
