US President Trump to Reopen Venezuelan Airspace

US Asserts Control Over Venezuelan Affairs

The US government has taken steps to reassert control over key aspects of Venezuelan affairs, including sovereignty and commercial airspace. During a cabinet meeting on Thursday, President Donald Trump announced that he had ordered the reopening of Venezuelan airspace, effective immediately.

Trump also stated that he had informed Venezuela’s interim president, Delcy Rodriguez, that US oil companies would be arriving in the country to explore potential projects. The President emphasized that American citizens will soon be able to travel to Venezuela and assured them of their safety.

The US has previously used the threat of further military strikes to influence Venezuelan government decisions on key issues. Commercial flights to Venezuela were suspended in 2019, but have now been reinstated following Trump’s request to the Transportation Department.

American Airlines announced that it would resume flights to Venezuela after receiving approval from the Trump administration and secure conditions. The White House has stated that oil companies are eager to take advantage of new opportunities in Venezuela following the ouster of former President Nicolas Maduro.

Trump did not provide further details on the plans for US oil companies in Venezuela, but emphasized their interest in exploring potential projects in the country.
