US President Trump Receives Responses from Multiple Countries Regarding Naval Coalition
President Donald Trump stated on Monday that “numerous countries” have informed him they are committed to joining a proposed international naval coalition to secure the Strait of Hormuz. The coalition aims to address concerns about maritime security in the region, particularly following repeated Iranian attacks on ships in the strait.
Trump did not specify which countries have pledged their support, citing the need for US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to make an official announcement. However, he noted that some countries are “very enthusiastic” about participating, while others have expressed reservations.
The proposal has garnered responses from various nations, including China, France, Japan, South Korea, and the United Kingdom. Several European leaders, including German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius, have stated their opposition to military participation in the coalition. In contrast, some countries, such as South Korea and the UK, are reviewing their involvement.
Trump also addressed concerns from countries that have declined to participate, stating that some nations have received significant protection from the US in the past but have not shown enthusiasm for joining the coalition. He did not name a specific country, but mentioned that the US has deployed 45,000 soldiers to protect certain nations from harm.
The proposal comes amid rising global oil prices, which have increased by 40-50 percent due to repeated Iranian attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz. The strait is a critical waterway for global oil consumption, with approximately 20-30 percent of global oil passing through it.
Since the US and Israel launched their military operation against Iran on February 28, there have been reports of increased tensions and violence in the region. According to Trump, more than 100 Iranian naval vessels have been sunk or destroyed, while the number of ballistic missile launches and drone attacks has decreased significantly.
