US Aircraft Carrier Strike Group Heads to Gulf Region
A US aircraft carrier strike group has been dispatched to the Gulf region, with Iran as a primary focus. The move comes amid heightened tensions between the two nations.
According to reports, the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln, along with other military assets, is en route to the Middle East. The strike group includes Arleigh Burke-class destroyers equipped with Tomahawk cruise missiles capable of striking targets deep inside Iran.
US officials have confirmed that the US military is monitoring the situation in the region and has a significant presence in place. President Donald Trump stated on Thursday that a “big force” is heading towards Iran, adding that “we’ll see what happens.”
The aircraft carrier’s path was altered more than a week ago from the South China Sea to the Middle East. The US military vessels en route to the region are equipped with advanced air and missile defense systems.
Iranian officials have reported that protests in the country resulted in the deaths of 3,117 people, including civilians and security forces. The US has maintained a significant military presence in the region for decades, with approximately 40,000-50,000 soldiers stationed there.
US officials have confirmed that additional air defense systems are being considered for deployment to the Middle East. Iranian state media has warned that any military strike on Iran could lead to all US bases in the region becoming legitimate targets.
The move comes as tensions between the US and Iran continue to escalate. The US has a long history of military presence in the region, dating back to 1958 when combat troops were deployed to Beirut.
