US Vice President JD Vance Arrives in Switzerland for Talks with Iran
US Vice President JD Vance has arrived in Switzerland to participate in talks between the US and Iran, mediated by Qatar and Pakistan. The discussions follow a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by the two countries earlier this week.
Vance’s visit comes after a recent escalation in tensions between Israel and Lebanon, which resulted in dozens of fatalities on Saturday. The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it was closing the Strait of Hormuz, citing Israeli violations of the ceasefire in Lebanon.
The Iranian delegation, consisting of parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, has also arrived in Switzerland to participate in the talks. The US delegation is expected to include Vance and other senior officials.
The conflict between Israel and Lebanon has entered its 114th day, with ongoing violence and tensions between the two countries. The latest round of talks aims to address the underlying issues driving the conflict.
Vance’s visit marks a significant development in the diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis. The talks are scheduled to take place on Sunday, with the Swiss location serving as a neutral venue for the negotiations.
