Syrian Pipelines Damaged in Recent Attacks on Energy Infrastructure

Syria Experiences Pipeline Disruptions Amid Suspected Sabotage Attacks

Two pipelines carrying gas and oil products were damaged in separate incidents in Syria, according to state media reports. The Syrian Petroleum Company announced the damage on Thursday, citing sabotage attacks as the cause.

The Jbessa gas pipeline in southern Hasakah province was struck by an explosion in the late afternoon. Meanwhile, a pipeline transporting oil products from Baniyas to Homs experienced damage, resulting in a fuel leak. The company stated that the gas pipeline had been targeted in a sabotage attack, with a hole found in the affected section.

Crews isolated the damaged stretch and secured the surrounding area, closing valves on either side of the damaged section. Repairs have begun, while teams monitor the area for safety. State media reported that the leak was believed to be linked to an attempted fuel theft.

The company assured that domestic gas supplies were unaffected, with alternative arrangements in place to ensure continued delivery to power stations. This incident is part of a series of sabotage attacks on Syria’s oil and gas network, which has been working to revive its energy sector.

In recent months, the government has faced disruptions to its energy infrastructure, including an explosion on a gas pipeline between al-Shoula and Deir Az Zor in late September. Authorities had previously arrested those responsible for damage to an oil pipeline near Tal Hamis in Hasakah province over a week ago.
