Sweden’s Yasin Ayari Scores Two Goals Against Tunisia at World Cup Debut

In a Group H match held in Monterrey, Sweden’s 22-year-old midfielder Yasin Ayari made his World Cup debut against Tunisia. Ayari scored two goals for Sweden, with the first coming just seven minutes into the game. The attacking midfielder volleyed the ball into the top corner of the Tunisian net.

Ayari is of North African heritage, with a Tunisian father and Moroccan mother. However, he was born in Sweden and chose to represent his country of birth instead of his parents’. Ayari’s decision to play for Sweden was supported by his father, Azzouz Ayari, who stated that his son should feel like he is giving back to the country that took care of him.

Ayari began playing football at age seven and later joined Scandinavian football giants AIK. He made his senior team debut in 2020 and was signed by English Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion in 2023. Ayari’s Sweden national team debut occurred in the same year.

In their match against Tunisia, Ayari was the standout player for Sweden, scoring both goals in a dominant performance. The young talent celebrated his second goal of the game, which came in the 95th minute, and received applause from the Swedish crowd.
