Spains World Cup 2026 Team Preview Released by FIFA Officials

Spain’s Squad Looms Over 2026 World Cup

The Spanish national team is set to face the 2026 World Cup, with many considering them the favorites to repeat their Euro-World Cup double. Led by young and talented players, Spain boasts an impressive collection of talent since the 2008 and 2012 golden generation.

Under coach Luis de la Fuente, Spain has adopted a faster and more direct style, moving away from their tiki-taka approach. The team’s recent performance in the 2024 Euros demonstrated their dominance over European opponents, beating England, France, and Germany en route to the title.

Spain have now gone 28 games unbeaten in normal time since March 2024, although they lost to Portugal on penalties in the 2025 Nations League final. The team’s star right winger, Lamine Yamal, has been a standout performer this season, scoring 16 league goals and grabbing 11 assists in La Liga and the Champions League.

However, Yamal is still young and has felt pressure and frustration at times this season, which may impact his performance in the World Cup. The team will need to protect their key player if they are to succeed.

The squad for the 2026 World Cup includes eight players from Barcelona, with no Real Madrid representatives for the first time. De la Fuente downplayed the absence of Madrid players, stating that he does not look at a player’s club affiliation when selecting his team.

Manchester City and Spain’s Ballon D’Or winner Rodri is expected to be a key player for the team, but has struggled with form and fitness since an ACL injury in September 2024. De la Fuente will need to ensure that Rodri is fit and focused for the long tournament ahead.

The Spanish national team will face significant pressure to deliver, particularly after recent World Cup let-downs. However, their talent and depth make them a force to be reckoned with in the 2026 World Cup.
