Ukraine Launches Missile Attacks on Russian Facilities
A Ukrainian military statement released on Monday confirmed that air-launched cruise missiles were used to strike two facilities in Russia: a plant producing electronics for missiles in the Voronezh region, and the Dubna satellite communications centre in the Moscow region. The Ukrainian General Staff described the Voronezh facility as a “critical component” in Russia’s defence production.
According to Alexander Gusev, the governor of Voronezh, a production plant was damaged and three people were injured in the attack. Air defence forces destroyed several high-speed targets in the skies over Voronezh, warning residents of the danger of missile attacks.
The Ukrainian military also targeted Russia’s Dubna satellite communications centre, with heavy smoke observed at the site. The extent of the damage is currently being assessed.
In addition to these attacks, Russian air defence systems downed 301 drones overnight, including those headed for Moscow. Eighty-four drones were intercepted in the past 24 hours, according to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin. The airports of Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, and Vnukovo, as well as Zhukovskiy near the Russian capital, had temporarily suspended flights.
Russian drone attacks also hit Ukraine, killing a 13-year-old boy, his father, and grandmother in the Sumy region on Monday. Two people were killed and seven injured in Zaporizhzhia overnight and early on Monday. Russia also struck an agricultural facility in Odesa with an Iskander ballistic missile on Sunday evening.
The leaders of Europe’s top military powers will meet in Berlin on Wednesday to discuss the Ukraine conflict and an upcoming NATO summit.
