Russia Warns of Critical Fuel Situation in Cuba Amid US Allegations

Cuba’s Foreign Minister Accuses US of Trying to Break Country’s Will, Hints at Diplomacy

Havana has expressed openness to dialogue with the United States, with Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez stating that his country is willing to engage in talks “without pressure.” The statement comes amid heightened tensions between Cuba and the US, which have been exacerbated by recent developments.

Russia has warned that Cuba’s energy crisis is becoming critical, citing “suffocating measures” imposed by the US. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Moscow is discussing possible solutions to provide Havana with necessary assistance. The situation in Cuba has worsened following US President Donald Trump’s decision to cut off oil shipments from Venezuela, which was facilitated by a raid on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

Trump has also threatened to impose tariffs on countries that continue to supply fuel to Cuba, including Mexico. In response, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that sanctions harming the Cuban people are “not right” and vowed to support Cuba in restoring oil shipments.

The US has imposed punitive sanctions on Cuba for decades, which have already had a significant impact on the country’s economy. The current crisis has led to widespread shortages of fuel, including jet fuel, which has resulted in flight cancellations and disruptions to daily life. The Cuban government has taken emergency measures to mitigate the effects, including limiting fuel sales and reducing school hours.

The situation remains tense, with both sides expressing a desire for dialogue. However, the US has made it clear that its goals are focused on regime change, which Cuba’s leaders have repeatedly stated they will not engage in under pressure.
