King Khalid International Airport in Saudi Arabia was targeted by a projectile on Sunday, resulting in one fatality and 11 injuries. According to the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), the deceased was identified as a Pakistani national. The injured individuals were taken to several hospitals for medical treatment.
The attack occurred at approximately 8:30pm local time, striking terminals 3 and 4, which handle domestic flights. A witness on board a taxiing aircraft reported that a projectile hit the tarmac next to parked planes, causing a fire. The aircraft returned to its gate, where passengers disembarked and were instructed to leave.
This incident follows a series of attacks on the airport in recent days. On Thursday, Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for strikes that killed at least three Saudi citizens, including a pilot. The airport has been closed since Saturday’s attack, which was the deadliest in the country since the US-Israel war on Iran began in late February.
The Houthis have also claimed responsibility for Sunday’s attack. The escalation of violence in Yemen is putting pressure on global oil supplies and prices, as well as commercial shipping through the Bab al-Mandeb strait. US President Donald Trump has stated that he is considering involvement in the conflict against the Houthis.
