Minneapolis Protesters Call for Immigration Agents to Leave City Area

Minneapolis Protests Erupt After US Border Patrol Agent Kills Local Resident

A shooting incident involving a United States Border Patrol agent has sparked protests in Minneapolis, Minnesota. On Saturday, a 37-year-old man, identified as Alex Pretti, died at a hospital after being shot multiple times by the agent.

Pretti was a resident of Minneapolis and worked as an intensive care unit nurse. According to reports, he had previously participated in protests against President Donald Trump’s immigration policies in the city.

Following the shooting, a crowd gathered in response, leading to clashes between protesters and federal officers. The Minnesota National Guard was deployed to assist local police at the direction of Governor Tim Walz. The Guard troops were sent to both the site of the shooting and a federal building where demonstrations have been ongoing.

A statement from the Department of Homeland Security said that federal officers had been conducting an operation when they fired “defensive shots” after a man with a handgun approached them and resisted their attempts to disarm him. However, bystander videos of the incident do not appear to show Pretti with a visible weapon at the time of his death.

The shooting occurred approximately 1 mile from the location where an ICE officer fatally shot Renee Good on January 7, leading to widespread protests in the area.
