Mexico wins all three World Cup matches with 3-0 victory over Czechia

Mexico Wins Group Stage with 3-0 Victory Over Czechia

Mateo Chavez scored the opening goal in the 55th minute, followed by Julian Quinones’ second goal of the tournament in the 61st minute, as Mexico secured a 3-0 win over Czechia. The victory marked Mexico’s first time winning all three group-stage matches at the World Cup.

Chavez, 22 years old and making his World Cup debut, was joined by Quinones, who scored his second goal of the tournament. Alvaro Fidalgo added a late goal in stoppage time to seal the win.

Mexico’s previous best performance in the group stage came in 1986 and 2002, both under coach Javier Aguirre. The team will now advance to the round-of-32 match against an opponent to be determined at Azteca Stadium on Tuesday.

Czechia was eliminated from the tournament with one point in three games. The match featured notable moments, including Gilberto Mora becoming the youngest Mexico player to start a World Cup at 17 years old, and goalkeeper Guillermo “Memo” Ochoa entering the game in the 77th minute, joining Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as one of only six players to appear in multiple World Cups.

The match also saw fans chanting a slur that has been used to intimidate goalkeepers during goal kicks. The chant has led to fines for Mexico’s Football Federation, with estimates suggesting hundreds of thousands of dollars in penalties.
