Hundreds of pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered outside an event promoting the sale of land and properties in Israeli settlements in London, condemning the event as a violation of international law. The demonstration took place on Sunday at the “Great Israeli Real Estate Event” in London, where dozens of police officers were deployed to maintain order.
The protesters held signs reading “Stop Israel’s illegal sale of stolen Palestinian land” and “Thou shalt not steal,” while some counter-protesters shouted slogans such as “Palestine doesn’t exist.” The Metropolitan Police reported 15 arrests during the demonstrations for various offenses, including public order matters.
Organizers of the event, My Home in Israel real estate agency, faced opposition from human rights activists and politicians across the UK. Nearly 100 British legislators signed a letter urging the government to stop the event, citing international law obligations. Layla Moran, a British MP of Palestinian descent, described the sales as “unacceptable” and called for the Metropolitan Police to have stopped the event.
The International Court of Justice ruled in 2024 that Israel’s occupation was unlawful and should end. The UK Foreign Office stated that it opposes the advertisement of property for sale in illegal settlements and has updated its advice to businesses on this matter.
