Irans Targets Revealed in Potential US Power Plant Strikes

US President Donald Trump Orders Pause on Attacks on Iran’s Power Infrastructure

In a move announced on Monday, US President Donald Trump has instructed the Department of Defense to suspend attacks on Iran’s power infrastructure for five days. The order was made following a 48-hour ultimatum issued by Trump to Iran, which threatened to launch strikes on its power plants if the country did not reopen the Strait of Hormuz shipping route.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical waterway that transports approximately 20% of the world’s oil and gas. The US president’s order came after Iranian officials had stated that the strait would remain closed until Iran’s destroyed power plants were rebuilt.

Iran has denied claims made by Trump about productive conversations between the two countries regarding a resolution to hostilities in the Middle East. In response to Trump’s ultimatum, Iran threatened to attack power plants in Israel and the Gulf.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) has warned of a “very severe” global energy crisis due to the tensions in the region. The IEA stated that the Strait of Hormuz’s closure has contributed to a surge in oil prices, which have surpassed $100 per barrel.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has also issued statements warning of retaliation against any attacks on its power plants, including water desalination plants and military bases hosting US troops. The IRGC stated that it would respond to any threat at the same level as it creates in terms of deterrence.

The situation remains tense, with regional dialogue ongoing between Iran and other countries in the Middle East.
