Iran Threatens to Target Energy Sites in Region If Attacked by US or Israel

Iran’s Parliament Speaker Warns of Potential Destruction of Regional Infrastructure

Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has issued a statement warning that critical infrastructure and energy facilities in the region could be “irreversibly destroyed” if Iranian power plants are targeted. The warning comes after US President Donald Trump threatened to attack Iran’s power plants if the Strait of Hormuz is not opened.

According to Ghalibaf, immediately after Iranian power plants are targeted, vital infrastructure as well as energy and oil infrastructure across the entire region will be considered legitimate targets and will be irreversibly destroyed. This statement was made in response to Trump’s comments on Saturday, in which he stated that the US would “obliterate” Iran’s power plants if it doesn’t open the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours.

Iran has effectively blockaded the Strait of Hormuz since February 28, when the US and Israel attacked the country. The strait remains open to all shipping except vessels linked to “Iran’s enemies”. The closure of the strait has caused a significant oil crisis, with global supplies being disrupted.

In response to the blockade, Iran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and several Gulf countries, which it claims are targeting US military assets. Iranian officials have stated that these attacks will increase the price of oil “for a long time”.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held separate calls with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, and US officials to discuss steps to end the war. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also called on world leaders to join the US-Israel war on Iran, urging broader international involvement.

The situation in the Middle East remains volatile, with tensions escalating between Iran and its regional adversaries.
