India Defeats England by Seven Runs in T20 World Cup Semifinal
In the second semifinal of the 2026 T20 World Cup, India posted a total of 253-6 to beat England by seven runs at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Sanju Samson scored 89 off 42 balls for India, while Jacob Bethell contributed a century of 105 from 48 balls for England.
England was initially struggling, with the team finding themselves 64-3 inside the powerplay. However, Tom Banton’s cameo of 17 runs from five balls and Will Jacks’ 35 from 20 overs helped to revive the innings. The partnership between Bethell and Jacks yielded 77 runs in six and a half overs before Bethell was run out.
India’s total was largely built on Samson’s impressive performance, which included seven sixes and eight fours. The hosts also received significant contributions from Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, and Tilak Varma. England’s bowlers struggled to contain the Indian batsmen, with Jofra Archer conceding 61 runs off his four overs.
The win sets India on course for a record third T20 World Cup title, as they will face New Zealand in the final on Sunday.
