Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara confirmed on Saturday that a 37-year-old man died at a hospital after suffering multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was identified as a Minneapolis resident and US citizen.
According to authorities, the incident occurred during a deployment of federal agents in Minneapolis, which has been ongoing for several weeks. The agents are part of President Donald Trump’s anti-immigration efforts.
O’Hara stated that he is calling on federal agencies operating in the city to conduct their operations with discipline, humanity, and integrity. He emphasized that effective law enforcement demands these qualities.
The shooting took place amid a raid by US Border Patrol agents, who were involved in a confrontation with an individual wielding a handgun. The Department of Homeland Security confirmed that one agent was responsible for the fatal shooting.
This incident follows previous incidents involving federal agents, including the shooting death of Renee Nicole Good earlier this month and another incident last week where a Venezuelan man was shot by federal officers.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz expressed his concern on social media, calling for an end to the operation. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey also denounced the Trump administration’s policies, stating that the presence of heavily armed officers is not making people safer.
Local leaders, including US Senator Amy Klobuchar, have called on Trump to end the federal deployment. The city of Minneapolis urged residents to remain calm and avoid the area while authorities gather more information about the incident. Protests have erupted near the scene, with tear gas reported in the air.
