Australian Girl Killed by Pakistani Police Officer
A fatal shooting incident occurred in Pakistan’s city of Chakwal, resulting in the death of an Australian girl and injuries to her father and brother. Hania Ahmed, a grade four student from Perth, was shot on Wednesday by Punjab Police Elite Force personnel who mistook her family for armed thieves.
According to authorities, the family was attempting to flee their rental car after being targeted by robbers at gunpoint. In the ensuing chaos, police officer involved in the incident mistakenly assessed that the suspects were trying to escape in the victims’ vehicle and fired his weapon. This led to Hania’s death and injuries to her father, Adeel Ahmed, 39, and brother, Aafan, 11.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese expressed concern over the incident, stating that his government expects transparency and a proper investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The officer involved in the incident has been remanded in custody, while the two robbery suspects were killed in a separate shootout.
The mother of Hania Ahmed escaped unhurt during the incident. Authorities have confirmed that the family was traveling in their rental car when they were targeted by robbers. The police statement acknowledged that the officer’s decision led to the tragic outcome and expressed regret for the loss of life.
