England wins 3-0 against Pakistan in Test series sweep

England Secures 3-0 Series Win Over Pakistan at Edgbaston

England defeated Pakistan by eight wickets in the third Test at Edgbaston on Saturday, clinching a series whitewash. The match marked England’s first Test series win since 2024.

Chasing a target of 130 runs to win, England faced early difficulties when openers Ben Duckett and Emilio Gay were dismissed in the first over. However, captain Joe Root led from the front, scoring quickly to take the sting out of the situation. Root was given two reprieves during his innings, including one when he chopped onto the stumps off Mohammad Ali but was signaled a no-ball.

Root reached his half-century off 57 balls with a cut for four and was matched by Jordan Cox shortly afterwards. England reached their target in the 25th over, with Root unbeaten on 62 and Cox 59 not out.

Pakistan’s debutant fast bowler Razaullah had an impressive innings, clubbing nine sixes as he scored 81 off 63 balls. He also took four wickets in England’s first innings and put on 121 for the ninth wicket with Mohammad Abbas.

The series win marks a significant improvement for England after a recent series loss to New Zealand. Pakistan, on the other hand, have lost 16 of their last 21 games and are currently at the bottom of the World Test Championship table.

Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam acknowledged that his team would need to take stock after the one-sided series. “We had to think about different things and decide our team,” he said. “Playing in England is very difficult. We were trying to do our best in the third match.”

The 3-0 whitewash provides a boost for England, who will face tougher challenges ahead, including a Test series in South Africa in December and January, and a home Ashes series next year.
