Uber to Invest $1.25 Billion in Rivian as Part of Robotaxi Partnership

Uber is committing $300 million initially and up to $950 million more by 2031 if it meets certain milestones, contingent on regulatory approval. The investment will support the deployment of a fleet of 50,000 fully autonomous robotaxis over several decades. As part of the agreement, Rivian will design its own custom AI chips for Level 4 autonomous vehicles. This partnership marks a significant vote of confidence in Rivian’s autonomy efforts and builds on Uber’s growing network of robotaxi partnerships.
