Microsoft Unveils Next-Generation Xbox, Project Helix, with Enhanced Raytracing and AI-Driven Upscaling
At the 2026 Game Developers Conference, Microsoft revealed its plans for the next-generation Xbox, codenamed Project Helix. The console is expected to feature a custom AMD chip that will significantly boost raytracing performance, including path tracing capabilities, which were previously limited by hardware constraints. The company also discussed its next-gen version of AMD’s FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) upscaling technology, which will utilize machine learning and frame generation. This innovative approach aims to improve the perceived smoothness of games by generating new frames between existing ones, resulting in a more seamless gaming experience. However, fans of Xbox may need to wait for Project Helix – Microsoft plans to begin development on the console with alpha testing not until 2027.
