Meta Extends Life of VR Metaverse Platform in Surprise Move
Meta has decided to keep its virtual reality metaverse platform running, despite initial plans to shut it down. In a surprise move, the company announced on Wednesday that existing VR worlds will remain available, and the Horizon Worlds VR app will continue to be downloadable for “the foreseeable future.” According to Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth, this decision was made in response to fan feedback from those who expressed concerns about losing access to their virtual creations. By preserving the platform, Meta aims to support its dedicated user base while redirecting its focus towards the mobile version of Horizon Worlds. This shift may signal a continued investment in VR technology and its potential for mainstream adoption.
