Grammarly Abandons AI Clone Feature After Backlash from Experts
Grammarly has announced that it will discontinue its “expert review” feature, which used artificial intelligence to suggest edits inspired by real writers without their permission. The company made the decision after receiving feedback from experts and users who were concerned about the lack of control and representation. According to Ailian Gan, director of product management at Superhuman, the team realized they had “missed the mark” and would rework the feature to prioritize expert consent and agency. By disabling the AI-powered suggestion tool, Grammarly aims to give writers more control over how their work is presented and respected in the editing process. This move comes after several high-profile instances of AI-generated content being used without permission, sparking concerns about authorship and intellectual property rights.
