Framework Modular PC Prices Soar Again Due to Ongoing Chip Shortages
The fourth month of price hikes is underway for Framework’s modular PCs, as the company continues to struggle with supply chain constraints. DDR5 RAM prices have increased by $2-4 per GB, from their February levels, with costs now ranging from $13 to $18 per GB. This shift in pricing is attributed to Framework’s depleted inventory of older, less expensive components and an adjustment to storage capacities due to rising costs. The Framework Desktop has also seen a price increase, with its base configuration now costing $1,269, up from the January launch price of $1,139. As previously reported, the company had been working on replenishing its stock, but ongoing shortages have pushed them to re-evaluate their pricing strategy.
