Digg's Open Beta Shuts Down Due to AI Bot Spam
The technology news website announced on Tuesday that its open beta had reached an untimable impasse after just two months of operation, citing a surge in AI bot spam as the primary cause for its demise. Digg, which was relaunched by its founder Kevin Rose and Reddit’s Alexis Ohanian with the promise of a community-driven platform, has now been forced to abandon its efforts due to the overwhelming influx of automated bots flooding its site. The company’s CEO, Justin Mezzell, took to the website’s homepage to explain the situation, stating that despite initial intentions to utilize AI to streamline moderation duties, the technology ultimately proved ineffective in combating the malicious activity. As a result, Digg has been left with no choice but to shut down its operations and significantly reduce its workforce.
