Amazon Set to Launch Alexa-Centric Smartphone Amid Industry Resurgence
A new report suggests that Amazon is developing a smartphone centered around its AI assistant Alexa, following over a decade of silence on the topic. The phone, codenamed “Transformer,” appears to be in development within Amazon’s ZeroOne group, led by J Allard, who previously worked at Microsoft. According to sources, the device will focus primarily on integrating Alexa capabilities, although it may not serve as the primary operating system. Exploring multiple design options, including a smartphone and a minimalist “dumbphone” inspired by the $700 Light Phone, which features a monochrome display and limited functionality, Allard’s team seems determined to push the boundaries of what an Alexa-centric device can offer.
