French Football Federation Announces New Head Coach
The French Football Federation has announced that Zinedine Zidane will succeed Didier Deschamps as the national team’s head coach, according to a report. The agreement was reportedly reached with the Federation Francaise de Football following this summer’s FIFA World Cup.
Zidane, 53, is set to take over the role from Deschamps, who has held the position since 2012. Zidane previously managed La Liga powerhouse Real Madrid for two stints (2016-18 and 2019-21). As a player, he won the 1998 Ballon d’Or and was a three-time FIFA World Player of the Year (1998, 2000, and 2003).
Zidane’s playing career included notable achievements with France, including winning the 1998 World Cup and finishing second in 2006. He also had a notable incident during the latter tournament, when he received a red card for head-butting Italy’s Marco Materazzi.
The details of Zidane’s appointment have not been made public, but it is expected that he will take over as head coach following the conclusion of this summer’s World Cup.
