US Troops Injured in Saudi Arabia Airbase Attack
At least five American soldiers are reported to be in serious condition following an attack on a US airbase in Saudi Arabia. The incident occurred on Friday, with reports indicating that at least six ballistic missiles and 29 drones were launched at the Prince Sultan Air Base.
According to news sources, including The Associated Press and Reuters, the attack resulted in injuries to at least 15 American soldiers. The Wall Street Journal reported that five of those injured were inside a building at the base when it was struck.
Iran’s central military headquarters spokesperson, Ebrahim Zolfaghari, stated that the Iranian attack left one refuelling aircraft “completely destroyed” and damaged three others. Satellite images published by Iran’s Press TV showed destruction of several aircraft at the airbase following the strikes.
The incident is part of a broader conflict between Israel and the US, which began on February 28. Iran has continued to retaliate against Gulf nations it accuses of serving as a launchpad for US strikes on the country.
In addition to the attack on the Saudi Arabia airbase, a US-Israeli strike reportedly targeted the Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran late on Friday. The strike did not cause any material damage or casualties.
The Pentagon and US Central Command have not commented on the incident. Al Jazeera reported that there is limited transparency about the Iranian strikes, but noted that the base typically hosts 2,000 to 3,000 US soldiers.
