Gaza Strip Faces Increasing Challenges Amid Regional Conflict
The Gaza Strip is experiencing heightened tensions and difficulties due to the ongoing regional conflict. The situation has become increasingly complex, with Israel tightening its grip on the territory’s crossings, restricting the entry of humanitarian aid, and violating a ceasefire agreement reached with Hamas in October.
Israel closed the crossings into the Gaza Strip on February 28, disrupting the entry of trucks carrying essential supplies and halting the travel of patients and wounded people. The move prompted widespread concern among thousands of patients who had been waiting to receive treatment abroad due to Israel’s devastating impact on Gaza’s healthcare system.
The limited reopening of the Kerem Abu Salem crossing has allowed a small number of trucks carrying aid and basic commodities to enter, but the volume remains far below the 600 trucks per day needed to meet the population’s needs. Significant restrictions remain in place on the entry of fuel and heavy machinery needed for recovery efforts, making it slow and complex.
The US-Israeli war on Iran has had a direct impact on Gaza’s economic and humanitarian conditions. The decline of crossing operations and reduction in imports of aid and commercial goods have led to a sharp rise in prices and shortages of goods in the markets. International organizations are struggling to distribute humanitarian aid adequately due to these restrictions.
According to the United Nations Children’s Fund, prices for basic commodities such as food and cleaning products have risen dramatically, with some items increasing by 200-300 percent. Medical sources report that Israeli air attacks and artillery shelling on various parts of Gaza continue in violation of the October ceasefire, resulting in at least 648 deaths and nearly 18,000 injuries since its start.
Analysts note that the shift in international attention has given Israel greater space to carry out limited military operations in Gaza without triggering major reactions. The humanitarian situation in Gaza remains fragile, with over two million Palestinians trapped in an extremely challenging environment.
