US-Iran Diplomacy Talks Remain Uncertain Amid Ongoing Pakistani Efforts

Pakistan’s Prime Minister and Army Chief Embark on Regional Tour Amid Ongoing Talks

Islamabad, Pakistan - The Pakistani government has confirmed that negotiations between the United States and Iran are ongoing through Islamabad, with a second meeting between their negotiators potentially set to take place. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Andrabi stated that no date had been officially announced for the next round of talks.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is traveling across the region as part of a four-day tour, visiting Doha and Antalya in addition to Jeddah. His visit includes meetings with key regional leaders, including Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Asim Munir is also traveling to Tehran, where he met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The meeting was seen as an effort to maintain diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Iranian Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has also met with Munir, while Reza Amiri Moghadam, Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan, stated that Tehran would only consider talks in Pakistan due to trust in the country. Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi accompanied Munir on his visit.

The Pakistani government is reportedly engaging in a parallel diplomatic effort, known as the “Islamabad Process”, which aims to frame negotiations as an ongoing diplomatic process rather than a one-off engagement. Security officials have denied reports that CDF Munir may travel to Washington, DC after Tehran.
