US President Donald Trump stated on social media that the US is “getting very close” to meeting its objectives in Iran and plans to “wind down” military operations in the region. This comes as his administration deploys an additional 2,500 marines to the Middle East and requests more funding from Congress.
The White House Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, stated that the US Armed Forces are making progress in their mission, with approximately four to six weeks expected to be needed to achieve objectives. However, the exact timeline for the war has not been clearly defined by the Trump administration.
Meanwhile, Iran fired ballistic missiles at a US military base in the Indian Ocean and continued to face attacks from Israeli forces. The conflict has resulted in significant loss of life, with at least 1,400 people killed in Iran and over 1,000 in Lebanon.
The US and Israel have offered varying rationales for their involvement in the war, including efforts to topple Iran’s leadership and eliminate its nuclear and missile programs. Trump has stated that he has no plans to send ground forces into Iran but retains all options.
In a statement marking Nowruz, Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei praised the Iranians’ resilience in the face of war, calling the US-Israeli conflict a “gross miscalculation.” The situation remains fluid, with ongoing military operations and shifting rhetoric from the Trump administration.
