US Approves $6.6 Billion Sale of Military Equipment to Israel

US Approves $6.67 Billion in Arms Sales to Israel and Saudi Arabia

The US Department of State has announced the approval of two major arms sales to Israel and Saudi Arabia. The approved sales include 30 Apache attack helicopters for Israel, valued at $3.8 billion, as well as infantry assault vehicles worth $1.98 billion.

Additionally, a third military contract was awarded for $740 million, while an additional $150 million will be spent on light utility helicopters. These sales are expected to be carried out by Boeing and Lockheed Martin.

The US has also approved a separate sale of 730 Patriot missiles and related equipment to Saudi Arabia, valued at $9 billion. This sale is intended to enhance the country’s air and missile defense capabilities.

In a statement, the State Department said that the proposed sales are consistent with the objectives of supporting Israel’s self-defense capability and contributing to regional security. The department also noted that these sales align with US national interests.

The approvals come as tensions between Iran and Saudi Arabia remain high. US President Donald Trump has stated that a large “armada” of US warships has been repositioned near Iran, in anticipation of potential military action.

Meanwhile, the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza continues to hold, despite ongoing attacks on Palestinians in the region. The State Department has also emphasized the importance of regional security and cooperation.

The sales are expected to be finalized in the coming weeks, pending any necessary regulatory approvals.
