UEFA Champions League: Teams Jockey for Qualification Spots
With only one round of matches remaining in the league phase of this season’s UEFA Champions League, several top European clubs are still vying for qualification spots. The top eight teams from the league phase will automatically qualify for the last 16, while the next 16 teams will participate in a playoff stage.
Currently, Barcelona is among the top contenders outside the automatic qualification positions, sitting in ninth spot. A win against Copenhagen in their final match would secure their place in the last 16. Meanwhile, PSG and Newcastle United are also in contention for a spot, with both teams currently holding 13 points.
Other notable teams, including Real Madrid, Liverpool, and Bayern Munich, are at risk of missing out on qualification if they fail to secure top-eight spots. A defeat in their final league phase matches would leave them vulnerable to elimination.
The bottom eight teams will be eliminated from all European competition this season, while the remaining teams will face a two-legged playoff stage with the aggregate winners joining the automatic qualifiers in the next round.
As of now, 32 teams are competing at this stage, with only four already eliminated. The stakes remain high as teams strive to secure their places in the last 16.
