US Capitol Riot Investigation: Key Points from Jack Smith’s Testimony

Representative Jack Smith, the special counsel overseeing the investigation into the January 6 US Capitol riot, testified before Congress on Tuesday. According to reports, Mr. Smith stated that the attack “does not happen” without former President Donald Trump.

During his testimony, Mr. Smith also provided insight into the events leading up to and surrounding the riot. He revealed that seven individuals were arrested in connection with the incident, although their names have not been released.

Additionally, Mr. Smith shared information about the investigation’s findings, stating that former President Trump acknowledged to others that he lost the 2020 presidential election.

Mr. Smith’s testimony was part of a closed-door deposition before the House Judiciary Committee. The committee has since released the transcript of his testimony.

The January 6 US Capitol riot occurred on January 6, 2021, when a mob of supporters of former President Trump stormed the US Capitol building in an attempt to disrupt the certification of President-elect Joe Biden’s victory. The incident resulted in five deaths and numerous injuries.
