Oscars to Leave ABC for YouTube in 2029
The Academy Awards will be broadcast exclusively on YouTube starting in 2029, marking a significant shift in the way live events are consumed by audiences. The Oscars have announced plans to move from their current home on ABC to the video-sharing platform.
This change is part of a broader trend in how people watch major cultural events. Audiences continue to adapt and evolve in their viewing habits.
The decision comes as reports of the “death of live TV” have been premature, with many events still maintaining strong viewership. The Oscars’ move to YouTube will be closely watched as it marks a new era for live event broadcasting.
Production credits include Sarí el-Khalili, Fatima Shafiq, Farhan Rafid, Tamara Khandaker, Tracie Hunte, and Kevin Hirten, among others.
