Toronto World Cup Tickets Resold on FIFA Marketplace at Face Value

FIFA Updates World Cup Ticket Resale Policy to Comply with Ontario Government Regulations

FIFA has updated its policy for reselling World Cup tickets in Canada to comply with the Ontario government’s recent ban on selling event tickets above face value. The new terms, implemented on Wednesday, affect ticket sales for matches at Toronto Stadium and other venues participating in the 2026 tournament.

According to FIFA, tickets for matches at Toronto Stadium can now only be resold for their original price on its official marketplace, FIFA Marketplace. This change comes after six matches at Toronto Stadium were removed from the official marketplace earlier this week due to the Ontario government’s “Putting Fans First Act”, which prohibits making a ticket available for sale on the secondary market or facilitating the sale of a ticket above face value.

In contrast, tickets for matches at other 15 venues can still be listed above face value on the official resale and exchange marketplace. FIFA claims that this platform is designed to protect fans and is subject to federal and local regulations.

The updated policy affects only Toronto Stadium matches, while allowing resales of tickets from other venues to proceed as usual. The change follows criticism over World Cup ticket prices, with some fan organizations branding the pricing structure “extortionate” and a “monumental betrayal”.
