South Africa edges UAE in T20 World Cup match ahead of India clash

South Africa Advances to Next Round of T20 World Cup

In a match played at the 2026 T20 World Cup in New Delhi, South Africa defeated the United Arab Emirates by six wickets, securing their spot in the Super Eights stage of the tournament. The UAE was restricted to 122-6 runs in their allotted 20 overs, with veteran pace bowlers Corbin Bosch and Anrich Nortje contributing to the team’s success.

South Africa opted to field first and achieved a victory target of 123 runs with 40 balls remaining. The team’s batting lineup, led by captain Aiden Markram, scored 123-4 in 13.2 overs, with Markram scoring 28 runs before being dismissed. Dewald Brevis and Ryan Rickelton contributed notable scores of 36 and 30 respectively.

The UAE’s Alishan Sharafu led the team’s batting efforts with 45 runs from 38 deliveries. However, his innings was cut short when he was caught in the outfield off Anrich Nortje’s bowling in the 18th over.

South Africa’s victory marked their fourth consecutive win in the tournament, including a double-tiebreaker victory over Afghanistan that required two Super Overs. The team will face India in their next match on Sunday in Ahmedabad, where they will look to repeat their 2024 final appearance against the host nation.
