Six people killed, 46 injured in Brazil highway bus accident

Bus Crash on BR-153 Highway Leaves Six Dead and 46 Injured

A bus crash occurred on Monday morning on the BR-153 highway near Marilia, Sao Paulo state, resulting in at least six fatalities and 46 injuries. The accident took place early on the highway, according to a post by the Sao Paulo state fire department.

The bus was reportedly carrying farm workers from the northeastern state of Maranhao to Santa Catarina state in the south for apple harvesting. The vehicle skidded off the roadway and flipped over after its left rear tire burst, causing the driver to lose control.

According to local newspapers, citing statements from Brazil’s Federal Highway Police, the bus was traveling on the highway when the incident occurred. The conditions of the injured passengers were not immediately known.

This incident is part of a larger trend of road accidents in Brazil. In February, at least 16 people died in a similar accident involving a bus that veered off the road and overturned in Alagoas state. In October, 17 people lost their lives when a driver lost control of a bus in Pernambuco state.

According to data from the Ministry of Transport, more than 10,000 people have died in traffic accidents in Brazil so far this year.
