Russia’s War on Ukraine Enters 1,414th Day
On January 8, Russian attacks have left significant portions of southeastern Ukraine without electricity, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy. The affected regions include Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhia. The ministry stated that critical infrastructure is currently operating on reserve power.
In a parliamentary address, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that any deployment of UK forces under a declaration signed with France and Ukraine would be subject to a vote in the House of Commons. Starmer emphasized his commitment to keeping parliament informed about developments and would put the matter to a vote if troops were deployed.
Ukraine’s foreign minister, Andrii Sybiha, welcomed the proposed move, stating that it reflects a resolute approach to dealing with Russia. In a separate statement on X, Sybiha also mentioned the apprehension of a Russian-flagged ship in the North Atlantic and expressed appreciation for the US President’s leadership.
US Republican Senator Lindsey Graham reported that President Trump has endorsed a long-awaited bipartisan bill imposing sanctions on Russia following their meeting on Wednesday. Graham stated his expectation of a strong bipartisan vote, potentially as early as next week.
