US Embassy in Baghdad Hit by Drone Attacks
A series of explosions occurred near the US embassy in Baghdad’s Green Zone, prompting the activation of air defense systems. According to reports, at least three drones were intercepted, while a fourth drone disappeared from radar. The incident is part of an escalating cycle of violence between US forces and Iraqi armed groups aligned with Tehran.
Security sources confirmed that the attacks targeted a US diplomatic facility near Baghdad International Airport, as well as a university compound in the al-Dura neighborhood. A fire broke out at the Central Bank in the al-Jadriyah district, where debris from an aerial object fell close to the building’s main gates.
The violence follows an air raid on a building used by the Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) that killed four people on Monday. The PMF is an umbrella group of Shia paramilitary factions that has been integrated into Iraq’s state security forces.
Reports indicate that drones have also been launched from within Baghdad, raising security concerns. Additionally, attacks were reported in Erbil, where the headquarters of an Iranian Kurdish opposition group was targeted by drones. US air strikes were also carried out against a tribal meeting in Anbar province, resulting in debris falling on agricultural land near Mosul.
The incidents are part of a broader conflict between US forces and Iraqi armed groups aligned with Tehran. The situation remains fluid, with ongoing reports of violence and drone attacks.
