NASA advises ISS astronauts to prepare for potential evacuation due to leak

NASA Orders Astronauts to Prepare for Evacuation as Russian Crew Makes Repairs

Astronauts on board the International Space Station (ISS) have been instructed by NASA to prepare for possible evacuation due to a Russian crew’s attempt to repair air leaks in the space station. The order affects four astronauts from NASA’s Crew-12 mission, including two US astronauts, a French astronaut, and a Russian astronaut.

According to Bethany Stevens, a NASA spokesperson, the Zvezda service module tunnel has been experiencing cracks and leaks for some time. Following new leaks, Roscosmos, the Russian space agency, has initiated a more extensive repair operation on Friday, June 5. In response, NASA has directed the four astronauts to assume an elevated safety posture in the Dragon spacecraft.

The ISS is operated by five international space agencies, including NASA and Roscosmos, with daily operations coordinated by NASA. As of Friday, seven astronauts were currently living and working on the orbital facility. The repair operation is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as necessary.
