Morocco edges Cameroon in AFCON 2025 quarterfinal match

Morocco Advances in AFCON Quarterfinals with 2-0 Win Over Cameroon

In a quarterfinal match played on Friday, Morocco defeated Cameroon 2-0 at their home stadium to keep alive their hopes of winning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in 50 years. The win marked Morocco’s fifth consecutive game without conceding a goal in open play.

Brahim Diaz scored his fifth consecutive goal in the tournament, netting in the 26th minute via a deflected header from Ayoub El Kaabi’s corner kick. Ismael Saibari also found the back of the net, scoring in the second half after being left unmarked at the back post.

Cameroon had a strong claim for a penalty in the second half, but the referee denied it. The team created little in the way of chances throughout the game, with only two shots on target. Morocco’s goalkeeper, Yassine Bounou, made no saves in the 90 minutes.

Morocco will face the winner of Saturday’s third quarterfinal match between Algeria and Nigeria in the next round, which will be played in Rabat on Wednesday. The team has yet to concede a goal in open play at the finals, while Diaz has now scored in each of Morocco’s five games.
