Crystal Palace Manager Oliver Glasner Confirms Departure
Oliver Glasner has confirmed that he will not extend his contract with Crystal Palace, which is set to expire at the end of the season. The Austrian manager made the announcement on Friday.
Glasner stated that a decision was made months ago and had previously discussed it with Steve Parish in October. He also revealed that the club’s management wanted to keep the information confidential for three months.
The news comes as Palace face Sunderland on Saturday, without defender Marc Guehi, who is reportedly set to join Manchester City. Guehi, the captain of Crystal Palace, has been linked with a move to Manchester United earlier in the week and was close to joining Liverpool on transfer deadline day in September before the deal collapsed.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola expressed concern over his team’s defensive crisis, stating that they are short of options without key players John Stones, Ruben Dias, and Josko Gvardiol. The club has agreed a deal in principle to sign Guehi, who captained Palace to FA Cup success last season.
Glasner declined to comment on Guehi’s future, saying only that the situation is “in the final stages” and that Guehi will not play for Crystal Palace against Sunderland.
