Forensic Teams Examine Body and Site of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi Shooting
Libyan prosecutors have launched a formal investigation into the killing of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, son of the country’s late leader Muammar Gaddafi. According to a statement from the public prosecutor’s office, forensic experts have been dispatched to Zintan in northwest Libya, where the incident occurred. The investigation is ongoing and efforts are being made to identify suspects.
The victim died as a result of gunshot wounds, according to the office. Investigators are seeking to speak with witnesses and anyone who may be able to provide information about the incident. Gaddafi’s political team has reported that four masked individuals stormed his house and killed him in what they described as an assassination.
The assailants allegedly engaged in a struggle with Gaddafi, who had attempted to defend himself despite having security cameras disabled at the scene. The motive behind the killing is still unclear. Saif al-Islam Gaddafi was previously held captive by a militia in Zintan from 2011 until his release under an amnesty law in 2017. He remained a resident of Zintan after his freedom.
