Laura Fernandez leads in Costa Ricas presidential election so far

Costa Rica Presidential Election: Early Results Show Laura Fernandez Leading

Early results from Costa Rica’s presidential election have shown that Laura Fernandez, a candidate from the governing Sovereign People Party (PPSO), is currently leading the race with 53.01 percent of the vote.

As of Sunday, ballots from 31 percent of polling stations had been counted, and Fernandez’s lead was evident. Alvaro Ramos, a candidate from the centre-left National Liberation Party, trailed behind with 30.05 percent of the vote. Claudia Dobles, a former First Lady, came in third with 3.9 percent.

According to the results, Fernandez would need at least 40 percent of the total vote to secure an outright victory and avoid a potential run-off on April 5. Further updates will be provided as more polling stations’ ballots are counted.
