A federal judge has indefinitely blocked a $1.8 billion payout fund established by former President Donald Trump to settle lawsuits related to allegations of “weaponization” against him and his associates.
The fund, which was intended to provide compensation to individuals who claimed they had been targeted by the Justice Department’s investigations into Trump’s actions, was blocked by US District Judge Tanya S. Chutkan in Washington D.C.
According to reports, Trump’s allies have proposed alternative plans to pay victims of the alleged “weaponization” claims.
The judge’s decision comes after a lawsuit filed by several individuals who claimed they had been targeted by the Justice Department’s investigations into Trump’s actions.
In a statement, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said it was “disappointed” with the judge’s decision and would continue to work towards resolving the lawsuits.
Trump’s legal team has not commented on the judge’s decision.
